Our Quest for Tier One Status

Tier One universities are recognized for rigorous academics, world-class research and exceptional students. These institutions benefit their community by creating an educated workforce and researching new technologies that drive economic growth.

To cultivate new Tier One institutions in the state, the Texas Legislature established funding and guidelines to support Texas Tech and six other emerging research universities.

For Texas Tech University, Tier One status will enhance student education, increase the global reach of our research and create a stronger economy for West Texas and the state.
