Wood is responsible for mentoring, managing and leading a broad team by setting goals, aligning strategies, and communicating clearly and frequently with all of Texas Tech’s colleges and units and academic leaders.

He joined Texas Tech in 2020 to lead the advancement efforts in the College of Arts & Sciences as the Senior Director of Development.

Prior to joining Texas Tech, Wood was at the University of Texas at Arlington. During his tenure at UTA, he helped lead athletics to some of their best fundraising years, including the first $1M gift to athletics and the addition of multiple endowed scholarships. In his role with the athletic department, he oversaw all aspects of athletics’ fundraising including major gifts, oversight of the Maverick Club (annual giving/booster club), managing sport specific fundraising, the Letterwinner’s Association and facilitating premium seating for basketball and marketing season ticket sales for various sport programs.

Before moving into the field of advancement, Wood held the position of assistant women’s basketball coach at UT Arlington from 2011-2013. Prior to arriving at UTA, Wood served as a full time mathematics professor and assistant women’s basketball coach at Blinn College. He also held the position of head women’s basketball coach, mathematics professor and kinesiology professor at Paris Junior College from 2007 to 2009. Wood’s career in higher education began at Hill College, where he served as head coach for women’s basketball and men’s golf, as well as teaching mathematics and kinesiology courses.

Wood earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M-Commerce in 2019, a Master of Science in Sport Management from Baylor University in 2005, and his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2002.

He is married to Texas Tech alumna and former volleyball team member, Caroline. They are the proud parents of one son, Adam.
