Texas Tech University Receives $4.6M for Undergraduate Scholarships

Texas Tech University students got an early holiday gift today as system officials announced the receipt of more than $4.6 million in new scholarship funds.

The sizable tally included gifts from 78 donors who responded in less than 48 hours to a matching gift challenge. All of the donations will be used to endow undergraduate scholarships at Texas Tech University.

“These gifts are a perfect example of what makes this season so very special,” said Kelly Overley, vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement. “All of us at Texas Tech appreciate the generosity of these donors who understand the value of higher education and realize the importance of supporting student scholarships.”

The donations were matched by funds from the estate of Willis Philips of Borger, Texas. A businessman with interests in the oil and gas industry, Philips donated a total of $3.4 million to Texas Tech University through his estate.
