Chancellor’s Council Honors Top Faculty with Teaching and Research Awards
Bestowing the Texas Tech University System’s highest faculty honors, Chancellor Robert Duncan recognized 14 faculty from the system’s four universities as recipients of the Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards. The honors recognize exemplary efforts in education and research and are made possible by philanthropic gifts to the Chancellor’s Council.
“On behalf of our institutions, it is an honor and a privilege to recognize our world-class faculty.”
This year’s faculty recipients were fêted at the annual Chancellor’s Council Gala, held Feb. 9 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. The yearly event celebrates members of the Chancellor’s Council who contribute annually to support the chancellor’s initiatives across the Texas Tech University System.
The perennial awards program marked a milestone this year, surpassing $1 million in total faculty awards for the first time since its creation in 2001.
“The quality academic experience available to our students in the Texas Tech University System is a direct result of the hard work, commitment and dedication of our faculty members,” Duncan said. “They pursue groundbreaking, impactful research and guide our students in reaching new heights of excellence. On behalf of our institutions, it is an honor and a privilege to recognize our world-class faculty.”
Faculty receive a $5,000 stipend and a gold medallion engraved with the seal of the Texas Tech University System. Since the program’s inception, a total of 165 faculty have received the distinction.

A history of advancing our universities
For more than 50 years, the Chancellor’s Council has helped empower the universities of the Texas Tech University System to pursue ideas that shape the world. Originally created in 1967 as the President’s Council, the organization continues to recognize donors who play an integral role in leading the system and its universities to accomplish their highest goals.
Through their annual gifts, Chancellor’s Council members invest in student success through scholarships, reward faculty innovation through the Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards, and support the chancellor’s top priorities.
