Chancellor’s Council Recognizes Faculty for Teaching and Research Achievement
Recognizing the impact of education and research have on advancing the universities of the Texas Tech University System, Chancellor Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., honored 13 faculty with the Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards. The awards for outstanding scholarship are the system’s highest faculty honors, supported by Chancellor’s Council donations.
“It is an honor to recognize these individuals and the many ways they power our mission to solve problems and change lives.”
“Through their annual gifts, Chancellor’s Council members make it possible for us to honor these outstanding faculty and do so much more across our universities,” Mitchell said. “These donors are part of the great things happening here, and I appreciate their continued support.”
Since the award program began in 2001, a total of 178 faculty have been recognized. Recipients receive a $5,000 stipend and an engraved medallion bearing the Texas Tech University System seal.
The 2019 honorees reflect the myriad of academic areas represented across the system, from fine arts and patient care to physics and the law. Each of the system’s four universities is represented, including Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Angelo State University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.
“I’m proud of the world-class innovation and excellence these faculty members exhibit and the unparalleled education and mentorship they provide to our students,” Mitchell said. “It is an honor to recognize these individuals and the many ways they power our mission to solve problems and change lives. I am thankful they choose to lend their talents and leadership to the institutions of the Texas Tech University System.”

Supporting the entire Texas Tech system
The Chancellor’s Council recognizes donors who play an integral role in supporting the chancellor’s vision for the Texas Tech University System and its universities through their annual membership gifts. It remains the easiest and only way to benefit all four of the system’s universities with a single donation.
Membership gifts support student success through scholarships, celebrate faculty achievement through the Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards and further Mitchell’s vision and priorities for the Texas Tech University System.
