Established in 1939, the Texas Tech Foundation supports and promotes all colleges, schools, programs and campuses of the Texas Tech University System.

John W. Carpenter III is chairman of the board, CEO and president of Lachlan Alliance, a development and investment company in Dallas.

Carpenter is a member of the Urban Land Institute, Dallas Citizens Council, Real Estate Council and Salesmanship Club of Dallas. He has been a director of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Irving Community Hospital Foundation and Central Dallas Ministries. He currently serves on the executive committees of the Trinity River Improvement Association, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and State Fair of Texas, and he is a trustee of the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation.

He has served as president of the Highland Park Independent School District Board of Trustees, and he is currently a director of the West Dallas Community School and the Highland Park ISD Education Foundation. He is also a member of the McCombs School of Business Advisory Council at the University of Texas.

Carpenter received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Business from Texas Tech University in 1974 and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas in 1977. He is married to Cele Briscoe Carpenter and they have three children: Benjamin, Austin and Bonner.
