Dennis Kruse is senior vice president of drilling for Tall City Exploration, an exploration and production oil and gas company headquartered in Midland, Texas.
Kruse began his 37-year career in the oil and gas industry with Gulf Oil Company and Chevron in the Permian Basin. As he worked in a variety of roles that included drilling foreman, drilling engineer, superintendent, and engineering advisor, he quickly gained experience drilling deep Delaware Basin gas wells, under-pressured drilling environments, large infill waterflood projects, and numerous horizontal wells.
In 1997, Kruse formed Drillmark Consulting, an engineering and wellsite consulting firm, managing projects for companies across Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana and Oklahoma. He merged his firm in 2004 with EPI Consultants, a subsidiary of Cudd Pressure Control, and continued to serve as vice president and general manager. From 2006 until joining Tall City Exploration, Kruse worked as an independent project manager, operator, and partner on projects across the state of Texas that included Wolfberry play, Barnett Shale, and the third Bone Springs sands.
Active in the oil and gas industry, Kruse is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and is a founding member of the Permian Basin chapter of the American Association of Drilling Engineers. Additionally, he has been honored with membership in the Academy of Petroleum Engineering by the Texas Tech University Bob L. Herd Department of Petroleum Engineering.
Kruse graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering. He and his wife Vickie have two children — Reagan, who received her bachelor’s degree in theatre arts from Texas Tech in 2015 and teaches drama in LISD, and Brynn, who received a BBA in Business Management from Texas Tech in 2021 and is currently pursuing a masters degree in Public Health Administration at Texas Tech.
