Thwe Htay

2020 Distinguished Teaching Award Recipient

Thwe Htay is an associate professor of medical education at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, where she directs the medical skills course for first and second year medical students in the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine.

Before moving to El Paso in 2016, Htay’s private medical practice focused on diabetes care in the Permian Basin region and Houston. She also practiced internal medicine at UT Health San Antonio, where she was extensively involved in medical education and ambulatory practice leadership. During her time in private practice, Htay also served as a clinical faculty member of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Permian Basin.

Board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Htay is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. She currently serves on the board of directors of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Physicians representing the far northwest region of Texas.

Htay received her medical degree from the University of Yangon in Myanmar and completed residency training in internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Permian Basin, where she received the regional dean’s award for outstanding professionalism and interdisciplinary coordination.
